The Intercultural Education Service (IES) is part of the Education Authority and comprises the former Inclusion and Diversity Service and Traveller Education Support Service. IES offers advice and support to schools and youth organisations who work with Newcomer, Roma, traveller and Asylum Seekers / Refugees (including the VVPRS programme). A Newcomer pupil refers to a pupil whose home language is not English or Irish and who may require support in school for this reason. The main aim of IES is to help build the capacity of schools to improve educational outcomes for pupils with additional educational need, through in school and family support.. IES support includes access to a regional interpreting service for pastoral and curricular meetings, translated school letters, translated generic guidelines about school policies and translated guides to positive parenting available on the IDS website at www.eani.org/ies. The service also promotes intercultural awareness, cultural competence, home language awareness and celebration of diersity across education.
